In the 1940s Freedman sold the labs back to what was then 20th Century Fox and remained as president into the 1960s. Walking With Dinosaurs: The Movie
The gigantic voice talents of John Leguizamo and Justin Long lead you on a thrilling prehistoric adventure the whole family will enjoy! In a time when dinosaurs rule the Earth, the smallest of the pack a playful Pachyrhinosaurus named Patchi must find his courage to become the leader of the herd…and a hero for the ages.
Is It Any Good
Audiences expecting a big-budget dinosaur documentary with extra realistic visuals will be somewhat disappointed. This isn’t a narrated documentary like most BBC Earth productions or the original Walking with Dinosaurs, which featured the voice of Kenneth Branagh. This is basically Ice Age meets The Lion King via The Land Before Time — but with amazing, digitally created landscapes and creatures to recreate the the fauna and flora of 75 million years ago. The scatological humor , the animal “instalove,” the underdog who saves the day — it’s all there, including a romantic subplot so strong the accompanying music was Barry White’s “I’m Gonna Love You A Little Bit More, Baby”!
Speaking of White, the eclectic soundtrack is really quite memorable, including Fleetwood Mac , Matisyahu , and Lord Huron playing during key scenes. It’s all a bit unexpected and confusing, even for kids, who are probably hoping for the 3D dinosaur to stop mooning over the girl from the other herd. Still, viewers will revel in the immersive experience the 3D visuals offer and appreciate honing their skills at naming various dinosaurs. Plus, there’s Karl Urban in two scenes. Budding paleontologists may want more, so check out the movie’s site which offers even more details about the dinosaurs of that period.

Content That May Disturb Children
In addition to the violent scenes mentioned above, this movie has some scenes that could scare or disturb children under five years. In fact, children in this age group could be scared by the dinosaurs in the movie, particularly in the 3D version.
Children in this age group might also find some of the scenes and creatures scary.
Some younger children in this age group might also be scared by some of the scenes in this movie.
Nothing of concern
Production And Financial Problems
Zanuck’s successor, producer , died a year later. President Spyros Skouras brought in a series of production executives, but none had Zanuck’s success. By the early 1960s, 20th Century-Fox was in trouble. A new version of began production in 1959 with in the lead. As a publicity gimmick, producer offered $1 million to if she would star she accepted and costs for Cleopatra began to escalate. ‘s on-set romance with Taylor was surrounding the media. However, Skouras’ selfish preferences and inexperienced micromanagement on the film’s production did nothing to speed up production on Cleopatra.
At the next board meeting, Zanuck spoke for eight hours, convincing directors that Skouras was mismanaging the company and that he was the only possible successor. Zanuck was installed as chairman, and then named his son as president. This new management group seized Cleopatra and rushed it to completion, shut down the studio, laid off the entire staff to save money, axed the long-running , and made a series of cheap, popular pictures that restored 20th Century-Fox as a major studio. The saving grace for the studio’s fortunes came from the tremendous success of , an expensive and handsomely produced film adaptation of the , which became a significant success at the box office and won five , including and .

Talk To Your Kids About
Families can talk about the enduring fascination with dinosaurs. What kinds of research did the filmmakers have to do to make this film?
Would you prefer a more traditional documentary, or do you like this fictionalized talking-dinosaur account? Is there anything lost by the humanization of the animals? Gained?

Stunning, but can be dark and scary in places.
3-D sequel is fun but also more intense than past films.
Terrifyingly realistic dinos run amok in sci-fi landmark.
What Parents Need To Know
Parents need to know that Walking with Dinosaurs: The Movie is a fictionalized account of a prehistoric herbivore’s life with a few scary parts. Instead of a documentary with narration, the ultra-realistic computer-generated production is more Ice Age than Jurassic Park with a plucky underdog protagonist . There is predator-prey violence that disfigures and kills dinosaurs that could be intensified by the 3D. Expect a romantic subplot that may turn off younger viewers. Language includes scatological references to dinosaur poop and a few insults, but it also includes clear references to the names of every prehistoric animal featured in the movie.

Walking With Dinosaurs: Prehistoric Planet 3d
In 2014, a shortened 45-minute version of Walking With Dinosaurs was released in 3D theaters across the U.S.A. Unlike the movie, this documentary is narrated by Benedict Cumberbatch in a style similar to that of the TV series, and removes the character names and dialogue. Unlike the series though, Prehistoric Planet 3D has a “profile” appear whenever a new prehistoric animal species shows up this profile shows the animal’s name and diet. The Gorgosaurus that appeared in the movie are referred to as Nanuqsaurus this is probably because other than a few possible indeterminate remains, Gorgosaurus is not known from Alaska, while Nanuqsaurus is.

Story Reviewstoryline: Our Reviewer’s Take
The concept for ‘Walking with Dinosaurs’ is great: beautifully shot footage of untouched landscapes and locations are touched up with CG to make it look a little more prehistoric, including the addition of almost perfectly animated dinosaurs. Consequentially, it shows exactly what Earth may have looked like when dinosaurs roamed here millions of years ago. A six-part documentary series with this concept aired in 1999 with scientific narration by Kenneth Branagh. While the visual effects in the BBC series weren’t so great , they are absolutely awesome in the feature film however, everything that made the series worth watching is bastardized in the feature.
Independently produced by BBC Earth, the folks responsible for giving us the astonishing ‘Planet Earth‘ series and the many similar series that followed it, when Fox picked up distribution for ‘Walking with Dinosaurs,’ they got too involved and destroyed the series’ good name. Knowing that a CG-enhanced historical nature documentary wouldn’t have huge appeal to mainstream audiences, they decided to turn it into a blasted kids movie. Originally planned to have narration, just like the series, Fox nixed the idea during post-production and gave the leading dinosaurs voiced-over childish dialog and a cheesy plot. The somewhat educational aspect of the series have been replaced with effort-less absurdity.

- Originally the dinosaurs where not going to speak at all and the film was going to be a silent, slightly less kid-oriented, animated documentary with narration. At the last minute the studio hastily hired actors to voice the dinosaurs after the animation had been rendered which is why the dinosaur’s mouths don’t move when they speak and when they do the lip synching is off. After the film was released it was panned by critics with the main criticism being the awkward voice-overs.
