    How To Have A Dino

Lets face it: Dinosaurs are awesome. We dont need an excuse to celebrate how cool our favorite Disney dinos are, but we have an extra reason to roar today: 20 years ago in 2000, the animated film Dinosaur debuted in theaters. In addition to being a landmark film for its state-of-the-art computer character animation combined with digitally enhanced live-action backgrounds, Dinosaur reminds us how just plain fun stories about dinos can be. To celebrate this milestone anniversary, weve rounded up some of our favorite animated Disney dinos who you can watch on Disney+ right now.

Dinosaur What better way to start off our roundup than with the film were celebrating? Dinosaur follows the adventure of Aladar, an Iguanodon originally raised by lemurs before reuniting with his own kind. As the films title promises, you get to meet all kinds of cretaceous creatures during this daring adventure, including a Brachiosaurus, a Styracosaurus, and the dreaded Carnotaurus!

Fantasia Fantastic music and animation come together to make the magic of Fantasiaand while some sequences take viewers to amazing worlds of myth and fantasy, the Rite of Spring sequence takes us back in time to when dinosaurs roamed the earthand they didnt always get along. One the sequences most iconic images is the epic battle between the Tyrannosaurus Rex and the Stegosaurus.

Pixar Announces Lightyear Disney Plus Premiere Date

Its been a bit of a rocky road for Pixars Lightyear. The movie, designed to play as the big sci-fi blockbuster that inspired the Buzz Lightyear toys seen in the Toy Story movies, has only grossed about $115 million in U.S. theaters and $213 million worldwide, making it the second-lowest grossing movie in Pixars long history. Along the way, Tim Allen, the voice of the original Buzz Lightyear from the Toy Story movies, publicly voiced his frustration with the film, saying it had no relationship to Buzz.

Obviously, this was not the return to theaters Pixar was hoping for after the pandemic. But you know what? Lightyear kind of got a bum rap. It was not the studios best movie, but it was far from the worst. In my own review I wrote, the impetus to make this film might have been to find a new way to capitalize on peoples love of Toy Story, but its still an entertaining and sometimes surprisingly tender adventure movie.

If youve been holding off on Lightyear because of the mixed reception, youll get a second chance when the film debuts on Disney+ next month. Pixar and Disney announced today the film will be available to stream there on August 3.

If you cant wait until next month, Lightyear is still playing in movie theaters around the country.

    Is A Sad Film Ok

Later, when we got home and my son was happily ensconced in Pudsey The Movie and I was talking to my daughter in the bath, I asked her whether she was glad I’d bribed her into coming with us to see The Good Dinosaur after all.

“Yes,” she grinned, her teeth stained a scary shade of blue from those pesky pick ‘n’ mix sweets. “But it was quite sad. Too many sad bits, I think.”

And that’s what some parents have been saying about The Good Dinosaur – along with the claims of terrifying children, and being too emotional mature for those under 10. So should children watch movies that make them cry, cheer, gasp, gawp and maybe hurt a little? Or should they only watch silly and fun films, as some of the protesting parents have been saying?

If you’re planning to take yours to The Good Dinosaur, here’s our handy guide for bits to gird your loins for and bits to have an explanation at the ready for:

    Ice Age: Collision Course

    • Release Year: 2016
    • Stars: 5.7/10 IMDb
    • # of Seasons: N/A

The sixth and final movie of the Ice Age saga, Ice Age: Collision Course, is all about comedic romance. Manny is against his daughter Peachs wedding, Sid is dumped by his fake girlfriend but finds someone new , and Diego wants to have a baby with his wife. Lots of drama and comedy to be had!

While the main characters arent dinosaurs, there are plenty of dinosaur creatures in the movie. The dino birds are a highly intelligent bunch who try to stop the impending asteroids that Scrat inadvertently launches towards earth. Though this movie is largely for kids, there are plenty of jokes in it for the adults to enjoy.

The Good Dinosaur Official Trailer #1 (2015) – Pixar Movie HD

As director Pete Docter has taken on a more prominent executive role over the past few years, Pixar has released three consecutive original titlesLuca, Soul, and Turning Redthat have debuted on Disney+ to critical praise, reigniting the studios commitment to new voices and narratives. As a company ages, you lose some of your original people who were sort of the soul of the company, Handler says, but Pixar has done a great job of keeping a bunch of those people within the studio, and theyve put together an excellent culture.

I think usually what comes out of is a time of undervaluing the creatives, and then the creatives rise up again and then you start having successes again, Bancroft says. The best successes for Pixar and Disney and any company usually come from a gutsy idea.

Ultimately, the gutsy idea behind The Good Dinosaur became too homogenized and derivative, and the dream of capitalizing on dino-themed content overshadowed the scripts weaknesses. I think what they probably learned is: If there are issues with the story, we just dont move forward with it until were ready, Bock says. You like to see them take giant swings with original content and you know that every once in a while youre going to get a sequel to something you may not have wanted, but thats OK because that just feeds the beast.

But maybe the dad was a bit too harsh about this. Mind you, he was under great pressure to protect his family and their future, so
  • The Dad dying – In the midst of life, there is always death. Unfortunately, it happens. It was an accident and it wasn’t Arlo’s fault. And his Dad will always be with him, guiding him, helping him and looking after him, even if he’s no longer with us. He’ll always be alive in Arlo’s heart, because love never dies. Or something like that.
  • The hallucination scene My son didn’t ask, but my daughter wondered what was going on here – I said: “They’ve eaten over-ripe peaches which has affected their brains so everything looks weird to them. It’s like they’re drunk – i.e. never drink alcohol, Sweetheart, look what happens to you! The fruit has fermented, I suppose.””What does fermented mean?” She asked. “SHHHHHHHH!” shooshed the people behind us. Time and place, Mummy, time and place…
  • The scary pterodactyls who want to eat Spot and Arlo I started burbling on about survival of the fittest and it being a jungle out there, red in tooth and claw yada, yada, yada – but my kids were completely immersed in the movie and completely ignored me. No change there, then.

    Days Of Halloween Sitcom Episodes

Jim Henson classic Dinosaurs will stream on Disney+ in its entirety on January 29, Collider reports. The 1990s puppet show previously streamed on Hulu, but executive producer Brian Henson, Jims son, is hopeful that the sitcom will find a bigger and new audience on Disneys namesake streaming service.

In an interview with Collider, Brian Henson, the current chairman of The Jim Henson Company, revealed that all four season of Dinosaurs will be available to stream on Disney+ late next month. Up until pretty recently it was on Hulu and it has had quite a following on Hulu, he explained. I think the audience will more easily find it on Disney+, which is terrific. It sits very well on Disney+. When they were divvying up what goes where, they eventually decided Dinosaurs should be over on Disney+.

Dinosaurs originally aired on ABC from 1991 to 1994. The puppet sitcom followed the Sinclairs, a family of dinosaurs in 60,000,003 BC Pangaea, as they navigated the everyday ups and downs of dinosaur life. The Sinclairs often gathered around the television to watch their favorite shows, and much like Insecure or Dear White People, the Henson series featured scenes from these fictional programs.

And What About My 9 Year Old

At first, my daughter was as cynical as ever, leaning over to me and whispering during a crucial scene. “The kid is always with the parent when it dies in Disney Pixar films – just like the Lion King, Bambi – ah, they’re all the same,’ she sighed wearily.

But then, something happened and she forgot herself. She laughed, cried, gasped , grabbed my arm, laid her head on my shoulder and cried some more. She felt everything that happened to Arlo and Spot – she was right there with them – and she was virtually inconsolable at the end.

Don’t Miss: The New Jurassic World Coming Out

    The Good Dinosaur Retro Review

Five years ago, Pixar went prehistoric and produced what is considered by many to be the worst film the studio has ever delivered with The Good Dinosaur. Arlo is the smallest dinosaur in his family. But, hes looking to make his mark on his familys grain storage bin just like the rest of his family. Along the way, he rescues the human he thinks is responsible for his fathers death and matures as a dinosaur while helping the human find his family.

This is the most average movie Pixar has ever produced. Its not actually bad, but its very average. The concept of what life would be like if the dinosaurs never went extinct is an interesting place to start, but making the dinosaurs just like humans and making humans just like pets doesnt work for me. I wouldve liked to have seen more of dinosaurs and humans interacting. I understand it was incorporating ideas of cavemen and the earliest humans, but it feels like its just missing something.

If you read my rankings of all 22 Pixar movies, you know that I rank The Good Dinosaur last among them. That being said, I dont hate this film, I just need to be in the right mood to watch it. While I view it as the worst Pixar film of the lot, Pixar has succeeded enough times, theyve earned my trust. And, truthfully, even lower tier Pixar films, like The Good Dinosaur, are better than what some animation studios provide.

So What Age Is The Good Dinosaur Suitable For

I asked my 9-year-old daughter whether she’d like to go and see The Good Dinosaur. She rolled her blue eyes to the ceiling, tutted loudly, put her hand on her hip and turned her mouth down so it looked like I’d just asked her whether she wanted sprouts with her dog poo for dinner.

‘Why would I want to see that? It’s for little kids!” she said dismissively, stomping heavily back up the stairs and slamming her bedroom door so loudly, I could almost see the big, black exclamation mark hovering outside her room.

My 5-year-old son’s reaction couldn’t have been more different.

“Yay! Today? The dinosaur? Now? Right now?” he said, fairly beaming with delight at the prospect, jumping down from the computer screen and shoving his left foot into his right wellie.
