The Natural History Museum is set to showcase one of the largest creatures to have ever walked the Earth.
A cast of the spectacular titanosaur, known as Patagotitan mayorum, will be on display at the museum in South Kensington, London from March 31 next year.
It’s the most complete gigantic dinosaur ever discovered, and is four times heavier than Dippy the Diplodocus, as well as 12 metres longer than Hope the blue whale.
And the colossal dinosaur is so large that it barely fits inside the 9-metre-high Waterhouse gallery.
Brits will be able to visit the prehistoric beast and explore the gallery while handling specimens and investigating interactive pieces.
The exhibit will be shown alongside illustrations of the Cretaceous Period, and visitors will also be able to track the life of a titanosaur, from a football-sized egg and into a fearsome predator.
Visitors will also be able to consider what gigantic animals exist on Earth today, and how they can be better protected in the face of climate change.
Professor Paul Barrett, science lead on the exhibition, said: “Patagotitan mayorum is an incredible specimen that tells us more about giant titanosaurs than ever before.
The cast of Patagotitan mayorum has been provided to the Museum by the Museo Paleontológico Egidio Feruglio , Argentina.

It will be one of the largest exhibits to grace a British museum. In spring, the Natural History Museum in London will display the full cast of a skeleton of a titanosaur, a creature so vast it will have to be shoehorned into the 9-metre-high Waterhouse gallery.
One of the most massive creatures ever to have walked on Earth, Patagotitan mayorumwas a 57-tonne behemoth that would have shaken the ground as it stomped over homelands which now form modern Patagonia. Its skeleton is 37 metres long, and 5 metres in height significantly larger than the museums most famous dinosaur, Dippy the diplodocus, which used to loom over its main gallery.
The sheer scale of this creature is extraordinary, said museum dinosaur expert Prof Paul Barrett. Even when you see it next to one of todays giant animals, like an elephant, it simply dwarfs them. Its humbling.
The remains of Patagotitan mayorum were uncovered in 2010 when a ranch owner in Patagonia came across a gigantic thigh bone sticking out of the ground. Argentinian fossil experts later dug up more than 200 pieces of skeleton, the remains of at least six individual animals.
Casts have been made of these bones by the Museo Paleontológico Egidio Feruglio in Trelew, Patagonia, and these form the skeleton that will go on display in London in March.
