Caring For Your Dinosaur Ring

As your ring will contain a precious piece of the past that has gracefully aged for hundreds of millions of years, you will no doubt want to ensure that you are caring for it properly.

Dinosaur bone ranges from 6-7 on the Mohs scale of hardness. This puts it close but slightly above opal, which measures between 5-6.5. This means that you need to ensure that you are careful to avoid unnecessary scratch, chip, or dent risks to your ring or band.

Some of this can be done by removing your ring during risky activities, such as housework, physical exertion, and swimming. Also, be sure to avoid exposure to harsh chemicals.

Outside of these preventative measures, you should make sure to follow a regular cleaning regime of wiping your ring with a soft cloth to defeat the buildup of oils and grim or use a toothbrush and mild soap to gently clean it in more extreme cases.

Every ring and band from Rings by Lux comes with a special finish to prevent it from avoidable degradation and scratch risks, but with ancient dinosaur bone, your care is required too!

Designing A Dinosaur Bone Ring

Its official: were married and Gavin is sporting his new dinosaur bone ring!

We didnt even know this was a thing, but Gavin knew he wanted a cool mens wedding band instead of going the traditional route.

He was searching online mens wedding bands retailers and stumbled upon Jewelry by Johan.

This was a jeweler that we never heard of before, but Gavins noticed they were based in Minnesota, Karens home state.

Upon further research, we found that Jewelry by Johan was based in Karens hometown, literally a mile down the road from her high school!

We knew it was kismet, and decided to create a custom designed ring for Gavin while we were back in Oakdale, Minnesota visiting Karens family over Christmas.

Muonionalusta Meteorite Ring Inlay

DIY Titanium Glowring made with Meteorite and Dinosaur Bone

The Muonionalusta meteorite said to be the oldest known meteorite, impacted northern Scandinavia around one million years BCE. The first fragment was found in Kitkiöjärvi, Sweden in 1906. There are around 40 pieces of Muonionalusta meteorite known to exist. The ground meteorite produces a black dust with shimmers of silvery iron. We add silver flecks into each meteorite ring inlay to create a unique design reminiscent of the night sky and the space from which it came.

What Are The Different Types Of Engagement Rings Designs

At Michael Hill we offer a wide range of different engagement ring designs to account for the many different styles and personalities of the men and women who wear them.

Most engagement rings feature a central stone, usually a diamond – though gemstones such as sapphire and morganite are also popular. Some engagement rings feature a centrepiece with a cluster of smaller stones that are set to give the look of a larger stone, or to create a unique shape, called cluster engagement rings. Engagement stones come in a range of cuts, including pear, round brilliant, princess, oval cut and more. These can be set in a solitaire style, with the stone taking centre stage on a white or yellow gold band, or in a halo style, surrounded by a ring of smaller diamonds for added sparkle. Vintage-inspired engagement rings are also a popular choice, offering a uniquely romantic charm.

What Are Dinosaur Bone Rings

Our unique dinosaur bone rings are made using an inlay of 100% authentic, crushed, agatized dinosaur fossils. The fossils we use can be traced back to dinosaurs that roamed the earth during the late Jurassic Age around 150 million years ago. Dinosaur bone is a fossil, fossil are rock, and rocks are brittle. This is why we inlay the dino bone as a crushed inlay to ensure a durable, wearable ring. The crushed pieces are inlaid into a groove on the band and sealed with a medical-grade resin.

Why Is Dino Bone Cool

Did we just ask that question? Seriously? How could anything Dinosaur-related NOT be the coolest thing ever?

Putting the Dino-Awesomeness factor aside, and the fact that your Dino Bone ring will be utterly unique, Dino Bone still has a lot to offer. The grinding and setting process still creates a very stylish pattern, which would be hard to replicate with most other materials. Yeah, using bone can make for a brittle and damage-prone product, but that same grinding/setting/sealing process solves most of the issues. As long as you treat your ring with respect, and keep it away from your more extreme activities, it will last you a lifetime.

And lets not forget just how versatile the process makes Dino Bone. You can have inlays of all widths and sizes, either centered or off-set. So, if you somehow cant find one of our pre-designed Dino Bone rings that fits you just right, the sky is the limit on designing your own custom ring!*

So that is it. If we havent riled up your inner-child enough to check out our line of Dino Bone Rings, go put on your footie-pajamas, grab a juice box, and put on Jurassic Park Then come back and read this again. Well see you next time for another edition of Know Your Ring.
