About Kualoa Ranch Private Nature Reserve
Kualoa Ranch is a 4,000 acre private nature reserve and cattle ranch located on the windward coast of Oahu. Ancient Hawaiians consider it to be one of the most sacred places on the island.
In 1850, King Kamehameha III sold a chunk of land at Kualoa to Dr. Gerritt P. Judd. Over time a few more purchases were made, increasing the acreage to 4,000 eventually, and today the ranch is owned by The Morgans, decedents of Dr. Judd.
The property is split into two parts: the northern half which includes the Kaaawa Valley, and the southern half which includes Molii, an 800-year old ancient Hawaiian fishpond. The majority of the tours take place in the northern part, nicknamed Jurassic Valley because its a real life Jurassic Park!
Seeing either area is possible only via guided tour. The farthest you can get without a tour is the visitor center and gift shop.

The waterfall in the background when the helicopter lands on the helipad is the Manawaiopuna Falls, colloquially known as Jurassic Park Falls.
As seen in the movie, the waterfall is deeply embedded inside the jungles of Hanapepe valley. The only access to the falls is via helicopter as the area is privately owned.

The Different Jurassic Park Film Locations In Hawaii

Jurassic Park is a classic film series that has captivated audiences for decades. The films are set on the remote island of Isla Nublar, and much of the filming for the movies took place in Hawaii.
However, all the movies were filmed across Hawaii’s islands, and these below are the locations that you can visit today without risking being eaten by dinosaurs.
Kualoa Ranch, Oahu
Kualoa Ranch is one of the most popular filming locations in Hawaii, spanning 4,000 acres of land and including mountains, valleys, rainforests, and beaches.
The ranch in Oahu is featured in “Jurassic Park,” “Jurassic World,” and “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” where the famous stampede scenes were recorded. The ranch is arguably the most popular filming location in the whole of Hawaii and now offers excursions that include ATV and mountain bike tours, boat trips, and more.
All in all, it is one location you can’t miss on a Jurassic Park Oahu tour, and you will easily understand why as soon as you step in.
Makai Research Pier
Island of Oahu
The Nublar ferry docks on the Makai Research Pier in Jurassic World, which is accessible to the public. Experience Jurassic Park Hawaii On Kauai And Oahu
June 25, 2022 by Beat of Hawaii
The only thing that got in the way of Jurassic Park was Hurricane Iniki in 1992. It was the last day of filming this epic blockbuster on Kauai when Iniki roared across the island. Since then, Jurassic Park and its sequels have roared across screens world-wide. You can visit some of the filming locations on Kauai and Oahu while you are here. And when you are at the lifeguard station at Hanalei , the first two homes on the left side facing the mountain belonged to the late author Michael Chricton, who wrote the book that started it all.
History Of Hawaii’s Kualoa Ranch
Kualoa Ranch is a 4,000-acre working cattle ranch and private nature reserve located on the windward side of Oahu and boasts 500 heads. Established in 1850, it is still one of the relatively untouched parts of Hawaii and will help you imagine what Oahu looked like back in the day.
In 1850, Dr. Gerrit P. Judd, an American doctor, acquired 622 acres from King Kamehameha III for $1300. Later on, ten years to be precise, he added another 2,200 acres to his estate. In 1880, the doctors son acquired additional acres for a total area of about 4,000 acres today. The ranch is nowadays still owned by the Morgan family, descendants of Dr. Judd.
This part of Oahu has been considered sacred to Hawaiian people since the 13th century and was reserved solely for royalty who were learning how to rule Hawaii. In fact, the Kamehameha ancestry, successors of King Kamehameha the Great, resided here.
Today, it welcomes visitors from all around the world, and thanks to their support, Kualoa Ranch was able to stay away from the over-development.
The terrain is made up of dense, stunning, tropical rainforest surrounded by incredible green cliffs plunging into the sea. With so much beautiful space to admire, Kualoa is an excellent location for outdoor activities such as ATVing, horseback riding, ziplining, etc.

Are All Scenes From The Movie Shot Outside The Studios
Although the Jurassic Park franchise heavily relied on backdrops and shots from various outdoor locations, especially in Hawaii, a lot of shots were still taken in Universal Studios in California.
Various stages were used to shoot various scenes from the movie. Out of the 30 soundstages of Universal Studios, 6 were used to shoot in-house scenes. These stages are: Stages 12, 16, 23, 24, 27, and 28.
Kualoa Ranch Secret Island Oahu
As mentioned above, one of my favorite beaches on Oahu is Secret Island beach Kualoa Ranch! Its the perfect place to spend a day away from the craziness of Waikiki or Lanikai. You can visit from 9am to 12pm, 11:30am to 2pm, or all day.
Why pay to go to a beach when you can go to others for free? First, its secluded. You cant just show up here. You have to take a boat across the fishpond and to get to the boat you must have access to private property .
Second, its filled with any beach activity you could ever want! Kayaking, canoeing, SUP, beach volleyball, you name it. The hardest thing about visiting Secret Island is deciding whether to lay on the beach, on a lounge chair, or in a hammock.
Its also great if you dont want to be at the beach stressed constantly about your stuff getting stolen . It is of course still possible here, but because youre with a group of people on a tour and theres no access to the general public the odds are much smaller.
And dont forget your dinosaur bikini, of course! My current favorite options:

Horseback Riding In Oahu
Forty minutes on the Windward side of Oahu is the Kualoa Ranch, a 4,000 acre private nature reserve and working cattle ranch and popular filming location for such popular movies like Jurassic Park, as a matter of fact the valley where you ride on the 2 Hour Horseback is often referred to as Jurassic Valley where the Dinosaur Scene was filmed.
There is a special raincoat for horseback riding that wont scare the horses and backpacks are not allowed on the horses. All riders must sign a liability release and are expected to proceed at safe speeds and stay on trails. Safety is as important for the horses and riders as it is to have a good time. Sometimes, the tour guides dont allow riders to get off the horses to take pictures.
