History

The history of the dinosaurs is as follows:

The dinosaurs were built over 30 years ago. The apatosaurus took eleven years to build and is one of the biggest dinosaurs in the world. The belly of the dinosaur hosts an awesome store with something for everyone. The T-Rex, affectionately known as Mr. Rex, took seven years to build, and you can climb right up into its head if you feel so inclined.

The dinosaurs are free to admire, but it does cost if you want to go in the T Rex . The apatosaurs has a full gift shop inside his belly, which is fun for kids to explore and doesnt cost anything to enter. There is everything from old cavemen to toys inside.

The History Of Cabazon Dinosaurs

The first dinosaur to appear at Cabazon Dinosaurs was the Brontosaurus, built by former Knotts Berry Farm theme park artist and sand sculptor Claude Bell. Bell decided to build the steel-and-concrete dinosaur in order to attract more visitors to his now permanently closed Wheel Inn Diner next door. Construction on Dinny the Dinosaur began in 1964 and was completed 11 years later. The giant apatosaurus is arguably the largest dinosaur in America. Mr. Rex was completed in 1981.

Since their construction, Bells dinosaurs have been featured in Coke commercials, MTV music videos, and the 1985 film Pee-Wees Big Adventure. When Bell passed away in 1998, his family sold the property to its new owners named Young Earth Creationists.

What Are There Cabazon Dinosaurs

20 minutes west of Palm Springs, in the small community of Cabazon, you will find Dinny the Dinosaur and Mr. Rex hovering over the north side of the freeway . Dinny is a 150-foot-long Brontosaurus and Mr. Rex is, you guessed it, a 65-foot-tall Tyrannosaurus Rex.

The statues are the brainchild of Claude Bell, who had been a sculptor and portrait artist at Knotts Berry Farm. Bell began construction on the dinosaurs in 1964 because he wanted to have something to promote his restaurant, the Wheel Inn .

Dinny took 11 years to be completed at a cost of $300,000. Mr. Rex was not finished until the 1980s and , for a brief time, had a huge slide going down its tail. But, because nothing can be fun anymore, the slide was filled with concrete.

Bell died just after the completion of Mr. Rex in 1998.

Since his passing, Bells family sold the property. The Wheel Inn shut down in 2013 and bulldozed in 2016. The dinosaurs remain and now include a roadside creationist museum and gift shop inside of Dinny.
